The Home of the Ledgister Family on the Web!
Welcome to our "Home" on the Web. We are based in the UK, however the family originates from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Despite our inauspicious beginnings the Ledgister clan has sprung far and wide; Europe, America, Canada, Africa and of course Jamaica!
Hopefully, this site can inform, educate and even entertain you! Since its creation we have been overwhelmed by your responses, advice, suggestions and comments. Thank you!

(St. Elizabeth is situated in South Western Jamaica. Black River is the capital)
I believe our name to be derived from "Legister". The OED lists "Legister" as a variant of "legist", meaning one well-versed in law. As a proper noun or adjective it refers specifically to a group of legal philosophers in the Han dynasty in China.
As another meaning, a "Legister" is a woman in a convent given the duty of reading aloud. (On the basis of an 1840 reference to writing of the 1400's).
